Annual Report 2022.

After a year of milestones and transformation, we head into a new year. To facilitate growth we of course need to recognise where we’ve been so we can forge a path forward. In this Annual Report we look over the last years achievements and developments and look to the future.

Board
Committee:
Governance

The Governance Committee provides assurance for the Board on key issues impacting the strategy and how the Board itself continues to remain focussed.

We met three times over the last financial year. Our workplan covers: Director development, partnership framework (in conjunction with the Strategy Committee), growth mindset for Board and ELT, Change framework, CEO succession planning, Board and Committee attendance review, CEO performance and remuneration, new member appointments – for AQA, Board and committees.

Our thanks go to the committee members: Michelle O’Sullivan (Chair), David Schreuder (Director) and Greg Schinck (independent member)

Chairperson and
CEO Report.

Welcome to our Annual Report 2022 and the opportunity to share many of the achievements of our people in progressing our purpose. The theme of this year's report is Transformation and Milestones. Transformation is about new; new services, new systems, new ways of thinking about what we do and how we do it. Milestones are about progress on a journey that continues.

The year saw AQA continuing to navigate the ongoing uncertainties of the CoVid19 pandemic including managing new requirements around workforce vaccination and significant disruptions as a result of the Omicron variant. Later in the year the easing of CoVid19 related restrictions brought their own complexity as the general community adjusted to living with the virus. We want to thank and congratulate all our people, particularly our Support Workers who responded to the additional requirements on them, and to our people coordinating and supporting our response. We applaud the practical, positive attitude and continuing effort of all our people that has enabled services and supports to continue to be delivered in such challenging circumstances.

Transformation is said to be an ongoing process that tends to appear ordinary, when, in fact, something extraordinary is taking place.

In a year dominated by the challenges of CoVid19 requirements, we made significant progress in transforming our systems and processes to enable AQA to deliver value to our clients, our people and the wider community. AQA, like many community organisations, grew from small beginnings using the technology of the time. As new services and programs were introduced they were often coordinated using separate systems and practical solutions. Now there comes a time when these various systems and processes cannot serve our purpose, our culture or what we want people’s experience to be whether as a client, an employee, a volunteer or a member of the wider community.

In July 2022 we went live with the first phase of our digital transformation with the launch of  new business systems including a CRM that will help manage and coordinate all our various relationships, a Scheduling and Payroll system that replaces paper timesheets and rosters, enables our support workers to see their rosters, accept shift offers and clock in and off, all on their phone and all in real time.

Our transformation is not just about systems, in fact it's mostly about processes and people. This year we continued the design of new ways of working. This has included new ways of organising teams in order to deliver services and supports consistent with our purpose to resource people to live well. Our new business systems have enabled us to commence the re-mapping of all our processes to better represent a person's journey and what is of value to them.

Transformation is also an ongoing process and while 2022 has seen us make some significant steps forward in establishing our digital capability we have only just started that journey. This capability will support new ways of engaging and communicating with our clients, our people and community.

It will help generate additional insights from the lived experience of our clients, community and from our people that will then inform our services and where our voice needs to be heard.

In a year with so many pressures arising from workforce disruption and shortages we have continued to make investments in Services and Capability and so in this environment we are pleased to report a positive financial outcome for the Association.

We thank Directors, Committee Members, our staff and volunteers and our project partners for the contribution they have made in both navigating a challenging time and in driving the transformation that will enhance AQA’s capacity to resource people to live well.
